Dine with Him

He sits me down at the table and says,
Dine with Me? Sometimes I’m too tired, have a place I should get to, or am tricking myself to believe I'm full. Those are all lies.
Dining with God causes me to know Him in ways I never would have.
I am filled but still hunger, thirst, and crave more. His Word is the food that satisfies yet pierces my heart. I sit with Him to read His Word out of a place of communion with Him. It’s how I learn about Him. It’s how we grow our relationship. It’s how He talks to me. I read My Bible to commune with God.
We should read our Bibles to grow our relationship and fill ourselves with who God says He is. Not just words about what He does.
When the words jump off the page, the Spirit echoes something, or prayers effortlessly flow all from Scripture- you know there is an enriched relationship with the Father at the center. There, you don’t question why you do it. You do it because you love Him. And want every bit more of Him.
Scripture is alive. It breathes. It moves. It has the power to transform death into life and sorrow into joy. It brings the dry bones to life. It quenches the questions while revealing more.
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
The Word is sharp. It easily can cut away the falseness of ourselves. When we approach God through His word, one thing is needed: transparency. The Word will divide our spirit (part of us that is united to the Holy Spirit) and soul (flesh). It knows us, our thoughts, and our intentions.
I’ve heard it said, God knows our intentions. That’s true,
“For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
I Samuel 16:7 NKJV
but it’s often overlooked that most importantly He knows our intentions towards Him.
How do you see God? How do you dine with Him? Do you rush to eat? Do you sit for a second and get up- never learning anything about Him? Do you allow Him to control the conversation? Who prepares the table?
Or do you dine with God to sit in His presence and gaze upon the wondrous Face of the Almighty. If you didn’t know, that’s open to you.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
Revelation 3:20 NKJV
I urge you to reflect on how you dine with God. Why do you spend time with Him? How do you? And why is it important to you?
Friends, sitting with God is one of the most precious gifts available to us. He knows you, He sees you, and He wants to dine with you.
Open your heart, sit at His feet, and feast on the Bread of life.
